By not using a camera, I am not avoiding present day life in my mythologies. In fact, I pay a great deal of attention to people's animated conversations, gestures and ambiguous posing. They are the inspiration for the images.
The visual and skeletal structures of the collage figures convey random media messages, which suggest an elusive and flawless magazine culture. However, I do not use economic or social identity to lure the viewer into a false sense of reality. The figure's rites of rapport and/or conspiracies become complicated by unknown dilemmas. I make large collages or montages using magazine cutouts, drawings and actual objects to contact print on photographic mural paper using flashlights and light bulbs. This process simultaneously prints both sides of the magazine page. Consequently, the titles for the images appear somewhere in the photogram itself.
